Assessment [1a]

BBC Radio 1 is a radio station that focuses its music towards 16-25 year olds. The people who listen to
Radio 1 normally live in and around Britain. I would say the music is geared more to people who enjoy listening to charted pop music.
The music format for Radio 1 is mainly charted music that is in the top  40 of the charts and the format has been chosen because it appeals to the age. it appeals to this age group because 16-25 year olds seem to listen to chart music most of the time and it also determines what actually goes on the charts. this is because most of the people who listen to radio send requests for the different music.

The different shows seem to switch between chart music and music that seems to be popular on sites like youtube and also music that listeners have requested to hear. during the day they seem to play mainly chart music however this all depends on what radio programs are on at the time.
It seems as though during the evening the radio programs are pretty much the same as the ones that are during the day. for example there is a program called Greg James "another 10 minute take over and more music goodness". The 10 minutes of music will most likely be chart music.
in my opinion i don't think that Radio 1 does not cater too all the scenes and music liked my young people because some young people aren't all that keen on chart music or current pop music. other than these seemingly rare occasions where people don't like the chart and pop music, Radio 1 caters pretty well to its audience as it seems most young people like pop and chart music.
after around 12 pm the music seems to change a lot from the usual chart music. They seem to change from chart music to genres like rock and electronic music.

As Radio 1 is targeting it's audience at young people who like current pop and chart music i think it is really appealing to it's target audience as it seems to play mainly current pop music and chart music. i wouldn't say that it's target audience is 16-25 year olds as some people in that age bracket don't like current chart and pop music and some of them can't stand it. if we are looking at Radio 1's target audience being 16-25 year olds then it isn't super appealing to the target audience as not everyone has the same taste in music

Radio Scheduling

1. What is a station's "Music Format"?
The music format  is the type and genre of music that the station wants to play. the music format must be work with their OFCOM licence

2. What is an A B C playlist?
An A B C playlist is a playlist that is listed according to how many times the songs are played on the radio in a day. The lists go "A" (most played 3-4 times a day), "B" (2-3 times a day) and "C" (least played 1 time a day)

3. What is "Music Scheduling"?
Music Scheduling is where a music scheduler adds music from the station's music format to a playlist so that it is played on the station and the correct times.

Radio stuff lesson - 16/09/2013

Learnt how Marconi took all the credit for other people's work.

I now understand how they amplify the radio waves from radio stations to receivers. even if it was in the form of a cheesy 1930s black and white TV program.

There are way too many BBC radio stations, the least they could have done was give them some original names.

Some radio stations are still pirate radio stations even though getting a licence is easy now. and i think i was lazy
